Legend Series: Beck, Sir Ken Robinson, and David Lubars On The Ideasicle Podcast

Back when I started Ideasicle in 2010, I launched an audio podcast called the “Ideasicle Podcast.” The point of the show was to explore the concept of creativity and I invited all kinds of experts to provide their points of view. I recorded 37 episodes over a couple years and really enjoyed it. Today, I’m bringing back three episodes with three true Legends: Beck, Sir Ken Robinson, and David Lubars. They are not only my favorites, they are evergreen with their insightful content. Enjoy!

Beck

Recording date: October 18, 2012

I remember when Beck’s Song Reader “album” came out. It was so innovative I wrote about it in my Forbes column (one of the most popular ever for me). What made it so innovative was the fact it wasn’t recorded, it was issued as a book of sheet music and that’s it. Now, this is before “user generated content” was much of a thing, but that’s exactly what Beck was hoping to inspire. Have a listen to how this fantastic idea came to be.

Note: audio quality isn’t great due to being recorded over the phone, but it’s ok.

Sir Ken Robinson

Recording date: April 12, 2011

I was soooooo nervous for this one. I mean, this guy is a knight for God’s sakes. And I was a huge fan after his monumental TED Talk that everyone on earth has seen. But I got through it and Sir Ken was magnificent. He explained all his theories around how our education system was killing the creativity of its students. Fascinating stuff.

David Lubars

Recording date: September 29, 2010

I’ve known David since I was an account supervisor puppy back in early 1990s. We bonded quickly when we learned we were both ridiculous Beatles fans. In fact, this interview with David when he was Chief Creative Officer at BBDO uses The Beatles as a backdrop in our discussion about creativity.

Postscript:

Hope you enjoyed those. Reviewing these podcast interviews gave me a nostalgic feeling. A longing, maybe, to bring back the Ideasicle Podcast.

Should I?
